Every question we actually get.
Every question we actually get about hematite, sizing, shipping and returns — mineral fact kept separate from tradition, the same way it is everywhere else on this site. If yours is not here, email support@himvolt.com — a person answers, usually within a few hours.
What hematite actually is
What does hematite mean?
Two different things, and worth keeping separate. The name itself comes from the Greek haimatites lithos, "blood-like stone," because a scratch on its black metallic surface leaves a red-brown streak. Separately, in crystal and folk tradition, hematite has carried a meaning of grounding, protection and steadiness since antiquity. That second meaning is a cultural tradition, not a measured property of the mineral, and we will always tell you which is which.
Is hematite magnetic?
Natural hematite is only very weakly magnetic, not enough to notice or rely on. What actually sticks to a fridge magnet is hematine, a man-made magnetic composite sometimes sold under the hematite name because it shares the black metallic look. If a listing anywhere is described as magnetic, it is hematine, not natural stone, and the product page should say so plainly. Every non-magnetic piece in this collection is genuine hematite, iron oxide, tested the same way mineralogists test it, the streak.
What colour is hematite?
On the surface, a metallic black-to-steel-grey. That is what you see and feel. Underneath, hematite is red-brown, which only shows if you scratch it: the streak test mineralogists use to identify it. Both colours are the same iron oxide; the metallic sheen is just how densely-packed crystals reflect light.
Is hematite a rock, a mineral, or a crystal?
Mineralogically, hematite is a mineral, a naturally occurring iron oxide, Fe₂O₃, with a specific crystal structure. "Rock" and "crystal" both get used loosely for it in everyday language and neither is wrong exactly, but "mineral" is the precise term. It is one of the most abundant iron ores on Earth, mined for iron long before it was ever cut for jewellery.
Buying and wearing
Will it fit my wrist?
Every bracelet in the collection uses a stretch elastic core built to move with your wrist rather than a fixed link count, with no sizing chart to get wrong. If you are between sizes or unsure, email us before you buy and we will tell you honestly whether a given piece will work. Rings run true to standard US sizing 6–12; check your ring size before ordering, since a ring is the one piece here that does not stretch.
Is this real stone or a coated bead?
Real natural hematite, iron oxide. It is dense for its size, cool to the touch on first contact, and (this is the actual mineralogy test) leaves a red-brown streak if scratched, despite its metallic black-grey surface. Coated glass and resin are lighter and show a different colour underneath if scratched, not red-brown.
What are the benefits of a hematite bracelet?
Two separate things, kept separate. What is measurable: hematite is iron oxide, notably dense, and sits at 5.5–6.5 on the Mohs scale, hard enough for daily wear. What is cultural: hematite has been carried since antiquity, and today it is one of the most-searched stones for regaining grounding, focus, confidence and resilience, reached for before a hard meeting, a long shift, or anything that calls for feeling steadier. We are not claiming it changes an outcome. We sell a heavy, well-made, good-looking object with a real mineral behind it and a genuinely old tradition attached to it. That is the whole pitch.
Do hematite bracelets actually work?
Depends what "work" means. As a physical object: yes, it is a real, dense, hard-wearing mineral that will outlast a lot of costume jewellery. As a fix for focus, stress or luck: no reputable seller can honestly promise that, us included, and we would rather say so than sell you a maybe. See our full breakdown at do hematite bracelets actually work for the longer answer.
Do you sell hematite necklaces?
Not currently. The collection is bracelets and rings only. If that changes we will say so here rather than let a search engine tell you otherwise. In the meantime, the Hematite Men's Bracelet uses the same single-strand, no-clasp build across every piece we do sell.
Shipping and returns
How long does delivery take, and what does it cost?
Shipping is free to every country we serve, with no minimum order. Orders are processed within 1–3 business days, then tracked delivery typically takes 4–7 business days depending on where you are. See the full country-by-country breakdown on our About page. Your tracking number arrives by email the moment the label is scanned.
What if I don't like it, or it arrives damaged?
We do not offer change-of-mind returns, so check sizing and details before you order. If your piece arrives damaged, missing, or is not what you ordered, send us a photo within 30 days of delivery and we will ship a free replacement or refund, no need to send anything back.
Care
Can I wear it in the shower or the gym?
Yes, day to day. Hematite is non-porous, so a quick rinse and a wipe with a cloth is all it needs. Two things worth knowing: prolonged contact with harsh soaps or chlorine can dull the polish over time, and at 5.5–6.5 on the Mohs scale hematite is hard but not indestructible. A hard drop onto tile or metal can chip a bead the way it would chip most polished stone. Treat it like the stone it is.
